With the Caught In The Act DVD, released last year, the footage from Arena’s Contagion Tour 2003 had already been made available. Nevertheless, the audio material that was recorded during the tour was of such high quality that the band decided to put out another live album as well. Just as Breakfast In Biarritz, their previous live release from 2001, Live and Life comes as a two-disc set. To motivate fans and followers to go out and get it though, they’ve added a DVD to the package. Don’t worry, it’s not another live DVD, but an interesting 40-minute documentary of the band’s life on the past tour. Although the quality of the footage varies, it’s interesting to have a look backstage and to get to know the band and their entourage a bit better. The 2 CDs make up the lion’s share of this package and are packed with almost two hours of Arena material. Most of it is from Contagion, the band’s latest album, and takes up the whole of the first disc. Disc 2 contains an amalgam of greatest hits: Serenity, Double Vision, The Hanging Tree, (Don’t Forget To) Breathe and Enemy Without from The Visitor (1998), Chosen and The Butterfly Man from Immortal? (2000) and Solomon and Jericho from Songs From The Lions Cage (1995) and Crying For Help VII from Pride (1996). Sound and performance quality are impressive indeed, which make this a must-buy for every fan of the band and the genre. (rockreport.be)
