ALBUM REVIEW
VdGG ceased making albums in 1971, then resumed in 1975 with a rather different sound. Fans long wondered what became of the few recorded rehearsals and rough demos that were made in between, but these went unheard until PH released this collection in 1982. From 1972 comes ''Time Vaults', Drift', 'Roncevaux', 'It All Went Up' and 'Black Room'; 'The Liquidator' and 'Tarzan' are from '73 and '74 respectively; 'Rift Valley', 'Coil Night' and 'Faint And Forsaken' are from '75. Personnel were Hammill, Banton, Evans and Jackson. A slightly uneven collection: much is brilliant and very listenable, but some seems a tad shoddy and will please completists only...A kind of "official bootleg" album taken from rehearsal tapes of songs that were never recorded by the band properly. Extremely poor sound quality but if your expectations are not those of a proper album but of a bootleg you should find it one of the better ones.
