The second album by this eight member progressive jazz-rock group is an absolute masterpiece! This japanese band is led by bass/keyboard playerHideyuki Shima, graduate of the Berklee College of music, with other musicians on guitars, keyboards, sax, drums, and vocals. It’s an incredible jazz-rock music, powerful, colourful, dynamic, innovative, that mixes the intensity of rock music, jazz music’s sophistication, contemporary music’s experimental spirit (some brilliant improvisations here and there), with also classical music influences. Somewhere between Weather Report, Brand X, Allan Holldsworth, Mahavishnu, Soft Machine, and sometimes Pat Metheny, with a more specific progressive approach on songs structures and melodies, Six North must be considered, from now on, as one of the best jazz-rock band existing!
