ALBUM REVIEW
This is a most curious and improbable piece of proto-prog from a time when anything-goes experimentalism spawned countless oddities some of which have stood the test of time, others which have dated badly. Occaisionally a little amateurish and even slightly out of tune, fortunately, at its best, this is suprisingly good and, at its worst, surprisingly funny. There are some genuinely interesting ideas too, mostly realized on a synthesizer and helped out by some rather idiosyncratic guitar playing, not so unusual you might think but by using an early drum machine in place of a drummer they create a strange hybrid beast indeed. It remains a period piece however, aspiring to be progressive, in which it partially succeeds, but ending up as close to quirky British psychedelia as anything else and, as such, is still a delightful listen. After all, it's difficult to take Brown's theatrics too seriously no matter in what setting he presents himself and who can forget the image of him prancing around with his head on fire? Well, try, for the duration of this album at least....bet you can't though. (seagull59 - Rate Your Music)
