People often ask me why our ensamble bears the name Arsenal…Well, it means borrowing from a great store of devices, those pertaining to different styles and genres (we use elements of jazz, rock, funk, folklore and chamber music) and various expressive devices (from traditional brass and ancient folk instruments to modern electronic equipment). Besides, there is a play of words involved as the first three letters of the word "arsenal" from the word "ars" which means "art" in Latin. (Alexei Kozlov) This CD contains Arsenal's debut self-titled studio album originally recorded in Riga in 1977, but released three years later by the Soviel "Melodia" label in 1980. Additional tracks presented on this CD together with the Arsenal debut LP's tracks (1-4) were recorded in 1978-1979 mainly in Moscow.
