Discipline's singer and main songwriter plays guitars, drums, saxophone, violin, piano, mellotron... everything but the bass. You can't deny his talents and originality, but it is evident that he is strongly influenced by Peter Hammill and Van der Graaf Generator. Astray is not very far from Unfolded Like Staircase by Discipline. The atmospheres and emotions are similar, only more naked and with less omnipresent electric guitar. The production (by MP himself) is rather sparse, almost like a demo recording, but that's part of the charm. (RYM)
