ALBUM REVIEW
PARTHENON is the name of a Venezuelan Progressive rock band that was founded back in 1979, disbanded in 1981 when Victor FIOL joined TEMPANO, and revived again some twenty years later. In the meantime, keyboards player Robert SANTAMARIA moved to Spain to form the band AMAROK, then returned to his home country to record "Mare Tenebris". Published by the Musea and Luna Negra labels, the CD was recorded between the years 2000 and 2004, except for the last three tracks which are from the archives. Musically speaking, the listener is invited to go into EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER territory, with guitar parts added for good measure. Sometimes neoclassical, sometimes symphonic, sometimes jazz-rock, there's a little bit of everything for everyone. AMAROK's singer Marta SEGURA is here as well, but there is more instrumental music than vocal. Very impressive both in terms of playing and composition. And don't feel bad if your booklet seems to be cut in the wrong place, this is part of the concept !
