ALBUM REVIEW
Behind the scenes of this new polish band hides the guitar player Marek Gil, author in 1988 of his first solo album (Alone) just three years later his latest work with Collage, a new prog outfit with whom released five albums since 1990. Recently out from the Satellite project in order to research new musical paths, Mr. Gil engages to this new venture two ex-Collage members, the singer and guitarist Tomek Rosycki and bassist Przemek Zawadzki. The japanese born Satomi with her precious gems playing the violin, along with the usual role of the drums and the keyboards, complete the band line-up to form an uncommon sextet. Despite all the good intentions the album doesn’t work. On the whole the compositions turn out rather expectable and anonymous, intentionally linear and for this reason they lack in surprise and invention generating in the long run a tired listening. The fuzz and heavy sounds of the guitar pulled out in the solos as well as in the rhythmic parts, make this debut album rather a metal prog oriented effort. The vocals, then, are not so impressive and don’t show a particular emotional involvement. While I really prefer to suggest listening ‘Pain’, track four of the CD and one and only composition which deserves attention. It is not enough for a debut that has surely disappointed the expectations.
