ALBUM REVIEW
Ex-Vagus is a french band originally coming from Grenoble which can already boast, after a decennial activity in the independent circuits, the release of a live album (Par Delà Des Legendes-2000), a mini CD with three tracks (Citè Global-2002) and another one recorded in the studio (Seconde Lumiere-2004). Âmes Vagabondes, here’s the title of their last effort, released by the Swiss independent record label Galileo Records, is a musical project clearly inspired by the tradition of the 70’s French prog but with a modern approach and temperament. Talking about tradition we refer to the illustrious predecessors like Mona Lisa, Atoll, but above all Ange, the band from which they seem to have drawn all their inspiration. Although the eight songs included in the CD are rather original and born from the minds of its members, it’s equally true that the dramatic feel and tension they are drenched of, as for example in the theatrical, intense and superb interpretation of the singer Eric Vedovati, belong to the repertoire of what historically was of Monsieur Decamps and co. This connection becomes true and indissolubly evident when sliding between credits is written that he appears as guest to the background vocals in Le Cheval de Nebuleuses, a long and involved piece of almost twelve minutes, and indirectly donating a precious cameo, the passionate ballad Ici.
