ALBUM REVIEW
If you like Hinterland, there's no getting around it, you need this new release, Afterglow. OK, so these five pieces were written in 1999 just as the band formed, but these were recorded in 2007-08. They really prove themselves big time with this release, it's simply one of the greatest prog releases I have ever heard of the '00 decade. Lars Frederick Frĝislie, as many know from recent versions of White Willow simply stack it with tons of great analog keyboards like Hammond organ, Minimoog, and Mellotron (the Real Deal here, no M-Tron), with guitarist Morten Andreas Eriksen, bassist Kristian Karl Hultgren, and drummer Martin Nordrum Kneppen, with Tony Johannessen on vocals, basically the same guys that were on Hinterland, with guests...Of course, Afterglow will not be without its criticisms. For one thing, this was released nearly four years after its predecessor (Hinterland) and it's only 35 minutes long. But I am not complaining, the music itself is so amazing that you might just forget how short it is. Many would wish it to be much longer since the wait was so long. But in my defense, look at many of the classic Italian prog albums from the 1970s that are barely over 30 minutes long. Then there are those recent releases that are over an hour long and they way overstay their welcome. This could have been easily made as a vinyl LP (but it's just on CD, on Termo Records). Don't mind that it's just 35 minutes long, this is simply some killer prog that's truly a must have! (B.Miler)
