ALBUM REVIEW
Le Spectacle de l’Albatros features the comeback recording of Lasting Weep’s magnum opus, "l’Albatros", a musical interpretation of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, composed in 1971. Just as Langlois was leaving Maneige in early 1976, he managed to briefly reunite Lasting Weep and perform a series of live renditions of "L’Albatros" at La Bibliotheque Nationale in Montreal on February 28, 29 and March 1, 1976. These shows were professionally recorded but never released on vinyl. The resulting musical epic is a masterpiece of the period, rivaling Harmonium’s L’Heptade and Camel’s Snow Goose. The incredible performance combines the talents of the group, with Maneige, Raoul Duguay, Michel McLean, Jean Vanasse and others, fusing styles as diverse as progressive rock, jazz, folk, classical piano, and percussion ensembles. Amazingly, despite being formed almost 40 years ago, not a single note of Lasting Weep’s music has ever been released to the public. These two CDs combine nearly two and a half hours of music from one of the greatest lost treasures of Quebec progressive rock history.
