The album Partir pour ailleurs was originally released on vinyl in 1979 by the group Brégent, centered around brothers Jacques and Michel-Georges Brégent. Lead vocalist Jacques' fiery dramatic performances were the perfect delivery mechanism for the poetry of Verlaine, Léo Ferré, and Félix Leclerc, set to the complex avant-garde electronic music of Michel-Georges, previously of the keyboards-percussion duo Dionne-Brégent. Inspired by classical music and minimalism in addition to rock, the resulting album was truly ahead of its time, a challenging and inspiring work of art as ambitious as anything from the era.
