I recall being quite disappointed by this disc when I bought it upon its release back in the day, but it's grown on me to the point that it's my favourite Utopia album today. I can see why so many aren't fond of it, since the first, proggy Utopia album seems to be the concensus favourite. There's hardly anything really showy about Oblivion, except perhaps Todd's squonky guitar solo on "If I didn't try". I've found that a lot of people can't relate to a record when the main emphasis is on the *songs*, rather than the performance or arrangements. All of it is professional and unshowy, and that's allowed it to age extremely well. At the time, I found it flat, but that was the point, I suppose. (gasp65 - Rate Your Music)
